👋 Howdy, I’m Kayla — Registered Dietitian, Personal Trainer & Women’s Health Coach

I help women stop dieting, balance their blood sugar, and finally feel at peace with food and fitness. No more counting calories. No more guessing. No more swinging between extremes.

If you’ve wrestled with weight-loss advice like carbs are bad, fat makes you fat, or eat less, move more, I see you. I became a dietitian to understand nutrition for myself—only to realize how overwhelming and contradictory the advice really is. It’s enough to make anyone freeze and do nothing. I’m here to change that!

How CGM Changed Everything

After years of coaching in medical and retail weight management programs, I realized something wasn’t adding up. Many women were doing everything “right” (i.e., eating less and moving more), but they weren’t getting the results they deserved.

Once I discovered CGM—continuous glucose monitoring—everything changed.

CGM provided visual data to connect what I ate with how I felt. I saw how specific foods and habits affected my blood sugar, making nutrition personal rather than just a math equation.

I was able to troubleshoot sugar cravings, energy crashes, nighttime snacking, and stubborn weight loss, helping me break the cycle of restriction and overeating, rebuild trust with my body, and enjoy food without guilt.

Today, CGM is the cornerstone of my coaching, because once you understand your blood sugar, everything about your metabolism finally makes sense. It empowers you to make informed decisions and puts you back in the driver’s seat toward vibrant health.

Why Rucking Became My Forever Fitness (and Why It’s Perfect for Women)

Just as CGM reshaped my understanding of nutrition, rucking completely transformed my relationship with movement.

In the midst of the pandemic, rucking started as a simple way to get outside and clear my head. I wasn’t prepared for the whole-life transformation that came from walking with weight.

Almost instantly, I felt stronger—physically and mentally. I leaned out and noticed a significant improvement in spending more time outside. Rucking was cardio that didn’t suck, and it helped me rebuild strength, resilience, and routine without burnout or obsession.

Rucking has been the catalyst for reconnecting with myself, nature, and others. My husband and I even started our own ruck club—North Star Ruck Club—and host monthly community rucks.

The benefits of rucking for women are becoming more well-known, and I had the pleasure of rucking along some incredible women at the first-ever GORUCK Ruck + Flow retreat in Costa Rica!

While sharing my love of rucking on social media, I was approached to write RUCK FIT: Build Strength and Endurance by Walking with Weight, the first-ever evidence-based guide to rucking. It’s a true honor, because I believe rucking is a movement every woman can benefit from!

Trust me, I’ve been there

Growing up, I was overweight, uncomfortable, and painfully insecure about my body.

I became keenly aware of my size in elementary school, getting called “fat” on the school bus and shopping in the boys’ husky section. From an early age, I hid in oversized basketball jerseys and used food to cope; I still hate the grab of a snug, fitted shirt.

Then came the restriction era—skipping lunch in high school, smoking to suppress hunger, and avoiding cafeteria favorites altogether. Adulthood became a loop of extremes—from carrot sticks and cardio to booze and bingeing. On the outside, everything appeared “fine,” but I couldn’t find peace with my on-again, off-again relationship with food.

I counted calories, over-exercised, nearly sh*t myself on the master cleanse, had a short obsession with intermittent fasting, and so much more. I worked in weight loss clinics, became a personal trainer, then a dietitian, and I still wonder if I have it all figured out.

So please know that, yes, I am a dietitian, but I am not the food police. I understand the mental tug-of-war when it comes to food and body image. It’s frustrating to be successful in most areas of life, yet struggle with something as personal as your weight.

My relationship with food and my body is still a work in progress (as it should be). But today, I bring awareness, curiosity, and daily habits—not obsession—to the table. And I teach women to do the same with the help of tools like CGM and sustainable movement like rucking.

In my free time

I am a Midwestern girl at heart, and even though I can’t drive a tractor, some of my fondest memories involve sitting proudly on the uncomfortable little half-seat admiring the neatly planted rows and machinery.

I love to read, ruck, and soak up the outdoors in my home state of Minnesota. I’m blessed to have married my best friend and adventure partner, Jeremy, with whom I’ve been happily married since 2011.

Jeremy and I live in central Minnesota and enjoy everything the Land of 10,000 Lakes has to offer, including the wildlife on our tiny little slice of heaven. Our favorite pastimes include “treasure hunting” on the shores of Lake Superior—my happy place—and making wood with Jeremy’s dad in Wisconsin.

I hope you’ll stick around for practical, professional nutrition advice, blood sugar-friendly recipes, and tips for living your best life—inside and out!
